Why is Breakfast an Important Meal of the Day?

Since we were just kids, we've heard the statement, "breakfast is the most important meal of the day." But is it actually the most important meal of the day, OR is it just an important meal to have on a daily basis?
I asked a dietitian friend of mine what she had to say about this claim and this is what she said, "Some newer research says that breakfast isn’t the most important meal of the day and that it doesn’t have any special benefits if you’re eating a muffin for breakfast vs the afternoon. But I do think having a healthy balanced breakfast IS important based off of years of research. It’s definitely helpful for improved focus, for blood sugar control, and improved insulin sensitivity. It also helps with overall satiety and offers some important nutrients that are specifically found in breakfast type foods that aren’t typically consumed later in the day. So overall, I still recommend it for most people, especially those that struggle with late night eating/snacking or feeling more hungry later in the day."
All in all, starting your day with a balanced, nutritious meal is going to pave the way for a great day both physically and mentally. Personally, my favorite way to start my day is with a meal like the one pictured above.
Protein source: 2 eggs and hemp seeds on top of the toast
Carbohydrates source: sourdough bread
Fat source: avocado
Veggie source: sautéed kale
It's a perfectly balanced meal and I am providing my body with different nutrients that I wouldn't typically eat later in the day.
